Live like Madison

She meticulously planned for the future, setting aside resources and investing in opportunities that would pave the way for her dreams. Yet, she found a remarkable balance by fully immersing herself in each moment of life.

Her days were filled with laughter and spontaneity as she cherished simple pleasures—whether it was a heartfelt conversation with a friend or savoring her favorite meal. She understood that while preparation is essential, living authentically requires embracing the present.

With unwavering dedication, she strived to make every day meaningful. Her vibrant spirit inspired those around her; they saw how joy could be found even amidst challenges.

Through this dual approach—planning wisely for tomorrow while passionately engaging with today—she crafted a fulfilling life rich with experiences and memories that would last long into the future. In her world, both aspirations and moments coexisted harmoniously, transforming ordinary days into extraordinary adventures.

Madison as a daughter

Joyful. Comforter. Playful. Sincere. Listener. Understanding.

Madison had an infectious laugh that could brighten even the gloomiest day. Her love for humor was evident in everything she did; whether it was through clever jokes or playful banter, she sought out laughter relentlessly. If a room felt heavy with silence, Madison would sprinkle her unique brand of joy into the atmosphere, transforming mundane conversations into lively exchanges filled with wit and charm.

She had a knack for capturing moments on her phone, often catching us when we'd least expect it that showcased our quirks in the funniest ways possible. Friends were always amused when they stumbled upon her collection of surprising clips—each one meticulously timed to catch us off guard just as we’d least expect it.

Madison's ability to create fun made every gathering more memorable, leaving everyone eager for their next encounter with her delightful spirit.

She never wanted to disappoint us and always put forth her best effort (unless it was time to clean her room or the kitchen.  Ha!)  She used deflection and humor as a way to stay out of trouble!  She thought it was fun to “watch” the parents on the find my app and then do things to let us know she was watching.  One time we were at a Mexican restaurant and she texted us and said, “you’re eating tacos without me?!”.  She would also post photos on Bill’s desk photo screen. It was funny because she would watch him on the app and see him going down the hall to his office, and then time her photo to post just the moment he sat at his desk.

Surely God is my Salvation

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation.”

Madison as a Student

Radiates positive energy, enthusiasm, & excitement.  Brightens the room.  Supports fellow classmates.

Madison Becknell excelled in her studies in the Clinical Leadership and Management program at the University of Kentucky College of Health Sciences. She made the Dean’s List multiple times, even while she was active in her community and with her church and sorority. She helped fellow students in their studies and was respected and appreciated by faculty.

Madison was excited for the future of healthcare and her role in it. Sarah Kercsmar, department chair and associate professor in the Clinical Leadership and Management program, said, “She was often the one sitting in the front row, eagerly engaged and, you know, put her hand up and was ready to go.” Madison was interested in integrative medicine after finishing her senior practicum, an extension of classroom experience, at UK. “She found her love and her passion,” Kercsmar said.

Karen Clancy, director of the Clinical Leadership and Management Program said, “Madison valued being a responsible, professional communicator in health care. She wrote in an assignment about the need for professionals in health care to be learners, inquirers, critical thinkers, and problem solvers. And she approached her studies and work in health care in that way.”

Madison as a SISTER

Good listener. Encourager. Devoted. Fun.

Madison was the best sister. Our relationship was honest and full of love. We always were the first ones to stand up for one another, even when we didn’t know we needed it. Even as a younger sister Madison had so much wisdom, and was the best reality check for me while always showing unconditional love. She was also the best sister in Christ, she was the best accountability partner and would tell you what you needed to hear, even if it was tough… boy do I miss that. Our childhood was perfect, I have so many memories to cherish, and am so grateful for all the hard work our parents did to give us the best. There are no words for how much she will be missed, hold your loved ones close, and Jesus closer!

I loved Madison with my whole heart, I think she was my favorite person on this planet. My fondest memories with her were playing games like Wii Sports and Donkey Kong with her and Elizabeth when we were young, as well as Fortnite in our recent years. As I've grown up, my favorite memory with her is running around Disney World and acting like kids again. It's been hard to see her go. The hardest thing about this whole process of grieving is knowing how to, because no one really does. The thing that just keeps coming back to help me with my grief is just worshipping Jesus in chapel at school or at church on Sundays. Just worshiping Jesus!

I remember all the times Madison went above and beyond for UK’s AGD chapter. I was touched by Madison’s constant course of positivity, love and vibrancy. Madison was selfless. She never failed to recognize when someone was struggling and always sought to uplift others. She was known to reach out to people anytime she thought they needed some encouragement.

It was a blessing to have Madison in my life. She taught me so may life lessons that I will carry throughout my life; from finding joy in the little things to what a good Christian looks like to learning to have patience (especially when we were running late because of her) and so many more. Madison was such a kind, caring and loving person. She had such a big heart and loved with every inch of it. She was always looking out for her friends and made sure to check in on everyone. I will always remember the random "SAMANTHA" text followed by a "I'm having withdrawals from you" or "I miss you". Those texts made me feel so cherished by her, knowing she was thinking about me. She was always the first person to wish me good luck on exams and always had so much confidence that I would do great. She was here for me in my highs and my lows, always there to comfort. I will never forget our stress relieving roundabout drives, our countless Trader Joes trips, our gossip sessions on the couch, and blasting Taylor Swift in the car. Madison brought so much joy to life. Nobody was a better friend than her. I will always strive to be the kind of person and friend Madison was.

Madison was one of my first real friends at college, who welcomed me with open arms and accepted me for who I was. I never would have thought the girl I met on bid day my freshmen year would be this important to me and be one of my biggest role models. Meeting Madison and growing in friendship and faith with her was an incredible experience.  Madison lived her life to the fullest and smiled big in every picture she took. She had a heart of gold and I am incredibly grateful to have been touched by it. Madison radiated positivity everywhere she went, she brought so much joy and pure happiness into my life. I am forever grateful for every moment I got to spend with her and for all the memories we made. Madison made Kentucky home for me. I love you forever and always Madison.

Madison and I first met in 2020 at our sorority’s Big/Little reveal, and from that moment, I knew she would be a lifelong friend. Together, we navigated everything college threw at us—difficult assignments, tough moments with friends, and countless happy times. No matter what was going on, we always had each other. Madison wasn’t just my best friend friend; she was my heart sister. We were so interconnected and close that I could always be my truest self around her. What I loved most about her was her fierce loyalty to the people she loved and her passion for the things she cared about. Her strong faith was something I deeply admired, as was her endless kindness and willingness to help others. Madison’s light will forever be with me, and I will carry her faith into everything I do. Every person I meet will feel the warmth of her light that continues to shine through me.

"I remember the first time I met Madison over Facetime, she was so excited to meet me in person. I had never met anyone like her, someone so bubbly and sweet. She always introduced me to her friends, and as someone who didn't know what a good friend was yet I found that immediately in Madison. We quickly became best friends, but Madison was everyone's best friend. She was someone I could always talk to who always had my best interest at heart. She was someone who never judged. Unless you were getting the finger guns pointed at you. I will always remember Madison most by her AMAZING dance moves. There was never a dull moment when you were with her. She was someone who would do anything for her friends, especially when it counted most. She was someone I went to church with who helped grow my relationship with God. I will always try to be the person Madison was to others. I will never be able to fully explain Madison because she. was. everything.”  “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard” - Winnie The Pooh

Madison as an employee

Problem solver.  Critical thinker.  Inquirer. Communicator.  Responsible Professional.

“Madison was my intern for almost three years. From my time of knowing her, I knew two things — she loved to help people, and she was a problem-solver,” said Ryan Clark, College of Health Sciences director of communication. “She wanted to know how to make things better, and how she could help people. That’s why I think she would’ve really liked the idea that a scholarship was going toward helping others. I know it is something that would’ve made her happy.” - Ryan
